So Say We All!
Some 3D prints are chosen because they look cool.
Others are chosen because they mean something.
This Battlestar Galactica sidearm falls firmly into the second category.
Battlestar Galactica has been one of my favourite television series for years. The characters, the story, the music, the moral dilemmas, the tension—few shows have ever pulled me in quite the same way. It’s one of those rare series that has stayed with me long after the final episode.
So when I came across a 3D printable version of the iconic Colonial sidearm, I knew it was going to end up on my printer sooner or later.
Thankfully, it turned out to be a fantastic print. The model printed beautifully, with plenty of detail and a little bit of little cleanup. Once assembled, it was time for my favourite part of any project: painting.
A good coat of primer, some careful sanding, then painting, and a bit of weathering later, the blaster started to look like something that might have seen service aboard the Galactica itself.
Now it sits proudly on my geek shelf alongside lightsabers, gaming memorabilia, and other pieces from the worlds that have inspired me over the years.
It’s a simple project, but every time I glance across the room and see it sitting there, I’m reminded of one of the greatest science-fiction series ever made.
Not every print needs a practical purpose. Sometimes it’s enough that it brings back memories of a story you love.
So say we all.
