Like really though
Every now and then you stumble across a TV show that sthat is so absolutely brilliant, you HAVE to tell everyone you know about it.
For me, that show is Hacks.
The series follows legendary comedian Deborah Vance and the young comedy writer hired to help modernise her act. What starts as a reluctant working relationship quickly becomes one of the funniest, sharpest, and surprisingly heartfelt partnerships on television.
It’s witty without being smug, emotional without being sappy, and manages to be genuinely laugh-out-loud funny while still giving you characters you actually care about (like love even).
Jean Smart is absolutely phenomenal in the lead role, delivering the kind of performance that makes it impossible to imagine anyone else playing the part. Her comedic sidekick Hannah Einbinder is a comedian and a bloody great actor. Together they’re the multigenerational friendship you didn’t know you needed.
And yes, before anyone says it, writing a recommendation for Hacks feels like a bit of a hack.
But unlike that joke, the show is genuinely excellent.
If you’re looking for something smart, funny, and incredibly well-written, do yourself a favour and give Hacks a watch.
